I've finally gotten my chocobo whistle! Now I can show Highland Runner off to the public 

I was really worried that he'd get auto-retired before I got the whistle and I'd never get to ride him. He's a little slower then regular chocobos, but not as bad as I was expecting

You can still ride retired chocos. You just can't boost their stats any further.
